The days are getting shorter and one can think of far greater things than going out into the cruel outside world where cold winds and social interactions seem to attack one out of every corner. Life confined to the small spaces of one’s bedroom can get quite boring sometimes and maybe you’re tired of binge-watching Netflix until your eyes bleed. Well let me introduce you to this cool non-electronic thing which is called a book and can possibly entertain you for hours. So, listen up geeks, bored people or those of you who just clicked on this article because they felt like it. I will give you some book recommendations which will probably rock your world.

The Lunar chronicles – Marissa Meyer

Cinderella as a cyborg? Rapunzel as a master mind hacker who lives in a satellite, or Snow white whose residence is the moon? Sounds weird to you? Well, this is what the lunar chronicles are about. This series combined elements of fairy tales we are all familiar with and placed them into a futuristic setting where flying cars are a pretty average sight.

The first book starts with the main character Cinder who is a mechanic in New Beijing. She is a cyborg and is very much despised by her stepmother and stepsister. But this is not the only thing making her life difficult. There is a massive plague which is haunting the empire of New Beijing and there is no cure. Not only that, but additionally the queen of the moon, Levana, is putting pressure on the country which could result in war. In this mess of things, Cinder makes the acquaintance of Prince Kai who just happens to be the successor of the Emperor. Not only is she caught between feelings she thought she would never be able to feel, but also discovers that she is not truly who she thought she is and that her uncovering of the truth might save the entire world’s population.

This is definitely not a girly series since love and cutesy romance are not the main focus. The storyline is about adventures, intrigues and some serious plot twists that you did not see coming. There may be fierce female characters who can stand up for themselves in every book but that does not mean that guys shouldn’t read it as well. It’s 2019, get over it. I would definitely recommend this book to people who like fantasy and elements of science fiction and I promise you, that if you like the first book, you will for sure love the rest of the 4-part book series!

Memorable quotes:

“Vanity is a factor, but it is more a question of control. It is easier to trick others into perceiving you as beautiful if you can convince yourself you are beautiful. But mirrors have an uncanny way of telling the truth.”

“I’m sure I’ll feel much more grateful when I find a guy who thinks complex wiring in a girl is a turn-on.” ― Marissa Meyer, Cinder
